LVRC Dunton 15th June 2008

Sun 15 Jun 2008

LVRC racing returned to Dunton with four North Road members on the start line.  Dunton regulars John McDowall and Nick Harris were joined for the first time this year by Del Evans.  Brian Goodwin made up the quartet in his maiden road race.  The racing was again dictated by a strong wind down one of the back straights, although the pace felt consistently higher than in previous outings.
About twenty-five minutes into the hour plus five lap race, a small group broke away, and gradually opened a gap from the main bunch.  Brian managed to stick with the pace for forty minutes before the elastic snapped and he dropped off the pace and retired.
With the main bunch mostly apathetic, it was left to John and a couple of other rider’s to put in some hard digs in the final eight laps, in an effort to catch the break-away.  With John clearly tiring after his efforts, Nick attempted a cunningly planned attack on the final bend, which quickly gained twenty meters over the bunch.  Sadly he run out of puff and died like a salted garden slug as the main bunch swept by in the final mass sprint.  Del Evans then nipped in front of his weary team mates in what he described as ‘the perfect race’
Three North Roaders finished in what remained of the main bunch with Brian gaining some valuable lessons for future outings.  The next Dunton outing is the 20th of July as the 6th of July meet has been cancelled.
