FORD CC DUNTON SERIES (EVENT 5) - Thursday 3rd July 2014

Three North Roaders arrived at Dunton for the latest Vet Crit, but only two where able to take the start line as Del Evans bike suffered an unrepairable mechanical just before the start. 

John McDowall and Andrew Bywater settled into the race with the testing drag at one end of the circuit  followed by a long straight into the teeth of a strong head wind.  Andrew was tailed off early on but John was active all race in attempting to initiate   a break from the bunch.  Two attempts had come to nothing, but with a break of four away and up the road, John’s third attempt with three-and-a-half laps to go was timed perfectly.  Two more riders joined him, and with some gentle verbal encouragement, a decent roll through break was creating a sizable gap on the bunch.  John perhaps did too much work in the break, and with the affect of previous efforts in his legs he was not able to contest the final dash to the line but came home third in the break, for seventh place overall.
