Tarmac melting temperatures ensured a hot days work for John McDowall and Richard Somerset in this 45min plus three lap fest at Hog Hill. With only the lower circuit in use, with a finish up the the hill, speeds were high and it was hard for the slightly leg weary North Road duo to make much impression.
A small break was caught by some hard chasing by the bunch, and a larger more threatening break that developed at a key time in the race, containing both the North Road boys, was also unfortunately nullified. Richard tried his luck with three laps to go with a couple of willing helpers but it came down to the inevitable bunch sprint. Richard secured 9th place whilst John came in 17th
